Kardia studied at Saint Martin's School of Art, before going on to specialise in sculpture at the Royal College of Art, where she was awarded her MA in 1977, later completing a postgraduate diploma in Art Therapy, at Hertfordshire College of Art. She has since lectured on sculpture and painting at many venues, including Central Saint Martin's, where she was a part-time lecturer and second year tutor for BA Sculpture, for about eight years.

As a tutor for the Open College of the Arts since 2003, Kardia runs painting and sculpture tutorials and workshops, for individuals and groups. She has run therapeutic clay-sculpting sessions with patients at the Jules Thorn Day Hospital in London for some twenty years.

Her paintings and sculptural installations aim to celebrate pigment and the existence of temporal forms in space.  Sculpture is cast in plaster on site responding to the specifics of the architectural space.  Forms slowly evolve, building complex constructions pushing the material to its limits. Paintings in differing media explore colour, its responses to various applications ultimately affirming its implicit resounding characteristics. Ink drawings trace the ability of line to entrap space within two-dimensions. Developing the relationship between the two and three-dimensional creates a dialogue across their boundaries aiming to echo form with colour and colour with form.
